Hekla Property is a studio born between volcanic rock and Baltic forests. A world where furniture is not just function, but a presence – sculptural, quiet, and enduring. Working with natural materials by hand, we know that each piece is unique, that every table, sideboard or cabinet will differ from the next.
-
Time, touch, and the small decisions of craftsmen leave their mark on every surface. We are not interested in mass production or fast cycles. Our work follows a slower rhythm – one closer to weather, to stone, to the way wood ages and metal darkens over years of use.
The Designer & Founder
Hekla Property is led by Railis Kotlevs—an interior and furniture designer working between Iceland and the Baltic region, where raw landscapes meet the depth of European craftsmanship.
His work operates between space and object, treating interiors and furniture as a continuous language. Rather than separating disciplines, each project is approached architecturally—through proportion, material and atmosphere.
What began as an individual practice has evolved into a collaborative workshop of artisans, designers and makers, translating concepts into precise, material-driven realities.
Railis’ design style is defined by sculptural clarity and controlled contrast. Dark tonal compositions are balanced with reflective metals, natural stone, and expressive materials—creating spaces that feel both grounded and atmospheric. Influenced by European design heritage, his work carries a quiet tension between refinement and rawness, structure and emotion.
The studio works across residential, hospitality and commercial projects, developing interiors and collectible furniture that are not driven by decoration, but by presence and material integrity.
Hekla Property has been recognised internationally, including the Golden A’ Design Award and the IDA Design Awards Silver. The approach remains intentionally discreet—allowing the work to speak through form, light and material.

The Language of Matter
Our world is built on contrast: dark woods and luminous metals, sharp lines and soft edges, silence and drama in the same piece. We choose materials with character – strong-grained veneers, reclaimed timbers, veined marbles, polished or softly patinated metals.
-
.
Every project starts with how matter feels, reflects light and ages, then becomes architecture in miniature: volumes and proportions designed to anchor a space and stand beside art, light and shadow.
From Idea to Object
Hekla Property was born from a desire to create pieces that are not background, but protagonists in a room. Each object begins as a sketch that evolves into precise, refined prototypes, tailored with clients so the finished piece feels inevitable in its space.

-
Craft, Workshop, Heritage
Our production is rooted in a family-run workshop in Riga, where experienced artisans translate drawings into physical objects. Traditional cabinet-making and metalwork meet contemporary forms as wood is selected, matched and veneered by hand, and every edge, joint and surface is carefully refined.
-
.
Metals like brass, copper and stainless steel are cut, welded, polished or patinated in layers until the right tone and reflection appear. There are no anonymous batches – each piece passes through a small circle of hands that know its name, its client and its destination.
-
Hekla Property lives between two geographies
Hekla Property exists between two worlds: the raw North and the crafted city. The mood comes from dark beaches, lava fields, cliffs and long nights, shaping our love for deep palettes and strong, calm silhouettes.
-
.
The precision comes from Riga, where workshops and European craft heritage turn that mood into durable, finely made objects. From this axis, our pieces travel to interiors across Europe and beyond, carrying both rawness and discipline with them.
